Dear all I have been working on a script to look at the scaler data from SCEPTAR for each of the precision scalers (0-3) for the current experiment (S1518). I attach the script and the output plots where "..scalers_fit_S1518" shows the decay curve fits for each scaler and "result" shows the extracted half-lives plotted for each scaler value with errors. The DecayScaler script uses the TScaler->Draw function added by Vinzenz. Some obvious improvements to the script would include: 1) sorting some more fragments (I have only sorted one sub-run so far) 2) including explicitly the different components of the decay curve (granddaughters, contaminant ions etc.) a) this would be well informed by the peaks observed in the gamma-ray sum spectrum b) we could look at the scaler data in coincidence with particular gamma-rays in the decay chain of 62Ga 3) including a legend and the different components of the fit (these are in the code but do not work with THStack - I will look into this) 4) compiling DecayScaler as a .cxx, rather than a .C file So far the measured half-lives do not vary so greatly between each scaler, though the average value is a little below 116 ms (but still within the uncertainty). An quick update on the precision scalers. We previously noticed that for one of the Ga-62 sub-runs the scaler data for GRIFFIN exhibited a 'spike' feature ~14.5 s into the cycle (GRIFFIN_scalers_04951_000.png). Looking at the scaler data (highlighted in red in TScalerPrint.png), it looks like this is due to particular entries with higher scaler values relative to the rest of the data, where the associated timestamps are also larger. Plotting the difference between successive scaler readouts as a function of the cycle number (cycnumber_scalerdiff_04951_000_A.png and ..B.png, where X=scaler difference and Y=cycle number) reveals this is a fairly uncommon occurrence. The two outlier bins appearing in ..A/B.png are assigned a cycle number ~150. In general, the scaler difference is small as the scaler values do not change much between the 10 ms readout intervals for this sub-run. All spectra shown are for a single sub-run (04951_000), module (2) and GRIFFIN detector (0). I need to look at lot more things - this is just an observation. I will upload the executable I used shortly. My local TScaler class was also updated.
